I've been taking sculpture I at the community college i've been going to this semester and just finished up this sea turtle made of seashells yesterday as my third project. Turned out a bit better than expected.(Note: this is my first time doing this kind of thing ever. previous projects were a low-relief wood sculpture and a wood carving.)
So heres some pics just because.(I have no idea why all the pics after the first got kind of blurry and weird.)

Took around a total of 6 and a half hours to make.(including the painting and gluing the pebbles onto the base.)

That looks great, Sleuth! It's the first time I've seen anyone work with seashells like this, it's pretty amazing. How are the shells held together?

And for a second I thought the base was oat grain. T'was wishful thinking on my part!

Thanks, glad you liked it. They're held together with lots of hot glue. The pebbles however, were stuck onto the base by applying some kind of construction adhesive my mom had lying around to the base(which in this case was a spare floor tile) and then just dropping them onto it.

@Alimilla: The prongs are there because I did not take into account how it was going to balance on its own when making and thus, had to add something to support it, i've also never seen suckerpunch.
@Caelifer: Funny story about that actually.. the final concept for this culpture happened entirely on accident. See, my original odea was completely different wherein i was going to make five smaller figures all clad in seashell's except one which would appear to be collapsing with it's seashell's appearing to be falling off of it while it's leg parts would have been mangled and twisted into an unrecognizable state. But then, as i was making the first figure out bailing wire it turned out much better than expected and i wanted to keep building on it. Additionally, it's poses which was intended to be nuetral ended up appearing much more "bold" do to the way the wires weight shifted when i bended some bits into place.(this wasn't the final pose though since i did end up modifying it slighty before it was done.) So i then came up with the idea of making it a idealized knightly figure whom would have dazzling golden armour and silver limbs. That idea however, was changed once again late into its developement when i found that he looked more like a "low-class" soldier and thus, i decided to go with a full silver colour scheme.(Also decided to go with it because the silver paint ended up looking really good on the test shell i sprayed.)

Heres some pics of my first sculpture because, why not?

OH MAN, DOUBLE-POSTING. I AM SUCH A MISCHIEVOUS URCHIN.

This is my latest project where we had to make molds of found objects. Honestly, i don't care for it that much.
Also, if you're looking into 3D modeling and have worked with clay before, i'd suggest giving this free virtual sculpting program called sculptris a try.
Our prof wanted us to try it and well do the fact that i have no experience with 3D modeling, haven't done anything with clay in years(and yeah, there was no clay work in this course either. Yeah.. it's weird) I have no idea what i'm doing.
